Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has broken the world record for cooking the largest ever pot of jollof rice in Lagos last week. Guinness World Records (GWR) confirmed the achievement on social media, stating that Ms. Baci's concoction of the popular West African dish weighed in at a staggering 8,780 kg. After nine hours of cooking, the effort faced potential jeopardy when the giant pot used to cook the dish broke while being hoisted onto a crane to be weighed, but thankfully, none of the rice was spilled. Ms. Baci celebrated the triumph, thanking her team and supporters: This moment isn't just mine... it belongs to all of us. Despite the massive pot buckling during its weigh-in, evidence was collected from different cameras to send to GWR for official recognition. Baci's recipe included 4,000 kg of rice, 500 cartons of tomato paste, 600 kg of onions, and 168 kg of goat meat, which were all cooked in a specially made pot that can hold 23,000 liters. This massive event not only marked a culinary milestone but also highlighted the cultural significance of jollof rice in Nigeria and beyond.
