TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — A drone launched from Yemen by the Houthi militant group has hit Israel’s southern airport, closing the airspace over southern Israel and halting flights, the Israeli military reported on Sunday.
At least one drone struck the passenger hall of Ramon International Airport, located near the southern Israeli city of Eilat, injuring one individual as reported by Magen David Adom, Israel's rescue service.
The attack is part of a broader offensive by the Houthis, who have increased projectile launches, utilizing cluster munitions to enhance their threat to Israeli air defenses.
In the wake of the Israeli strike in Sanaa, Yemen, that resulted in the death of Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi, the group vowed to escalate their attacks on Israel.
In separate developments, Israel continues military operations in Gaza City, claiming the need to dismantle what they describe as the 'Iranian axis's chokehold.' Negotiations between Israel and Hamas have stalled, heightening tensions in the region.
As the violence escalates, the situation remains fluid with frequent updates on airspace security and military activities.
