Police continue to investigate the theft of historical artifacts, including a valuable Romanian golden helmet.
Over the weekend, thieves executed a dramatic robbery at the Drents Museum in Assen, Netherlands, stealing ancient treasures, notably a golden helmet on loan from Romania. The local police announced on Wednesday that they have arrested three individuals in connection with the theft.
The suspects were taken into custody in Heerhugowaard, a city located 30 miles north of Amsterdam, far from the site of the crime. Identified were Douglas Chesley Wendersteyt and Bernhard Zeeman, both residents of Heerhugowaard. A third suspect, a woman from the same region, remains unnamed.
While police have conducted searches in the area, the stolen artifacts, including the golden helmet, have yet to be recovered. Authorities are also seeking a fourth individual linked to the burglary and have released surveillance images of a person observed in a hardware store in Assen wearing glasses, a dark shirt, and a baseball cap.
"This case is a top priority for the police and the public prosecutor," stated the authorities. Surveillance footage captured during the early hours on Saturday shows three masked figures forcibly attempting to break through a heavy access door before detonating an explosive device. The scene is marked by a blinding flash and a burst of sparks as the audacious robbery unfolded.
As investigations continue, authorities remain focused on recovering the stolen treasures and gathering more evidence to bring all involved parties to justice.
