U.S. Military Strikes Inflict Severe Damage on Iranian Nuclear Facility
New intelligence report reveals the extent of destruction at Fordo following U.S. airstrikes.
In a recent assessment from American intelligence sources, it has been disclosed that the U.S. Air Force’s B-2 bombers’ strikes on the Iranian nuclear enrichment facility at Fordo have resulted in severe damage, potentially crippling it. The bombings, which occurred last month, involved the deployment of 12 massive bombs that targeted this deeply buried and heavily fortified site.
Additional nuclear sites were also struck, although damage was less extensive in comparison. However, the U.S. officials indicated that critical components necessary for the fabrication of nuclear weapons at these other sites were destroyed, which could set back Iran's nuclear progress significantly, potentially spanning years for reconstruction.
An Israeli senior official commented that the airstrikes likely did not completely eradicate Iran's stockpile of nearly bomb-grade fuel, which is sufficient to produce approximately 10 nuclear weapons. Nevertheless, U.S. officials argue that, without the pertinent fabrication facilities, this fuel is rendered largely ineffective. Furthermore, it is believed that much of the remaining uranium enriched to 60 percent purity is buried beneath rubble at Fordo, although the stockpile at Iran's lab in Isfahan may still be accessible.
As discussions ensue within U.S. government circles regarding the ramifications of these military actions, the debate centers on the actual impact on Iran's broader nuclear ambitions and its capacity to utilize existing uranium supplies for weapon creation. The outcomes of these airstrikes may prove pivotal in the ongoing concerns over nuclear proliferation in the region.
