**Historical Treasure Unearthed: Engineers Find 132-Year-Old Bottle Message in Scottish Lighthouse**

Mechanical engineers stumble upon a remarkable handwritten note while refurbishing Corsewall Lighthouse.

A fascinating discovery shines a light on history as engineers rescue a century-old message inscribed by former lighthouse keepers.

In an extraordinary twist of fate, mechanical engineers working on the refurbishment of Corsewall Lighthouse, located in the picturesque village of Kirkcolm, southwest Scotland, uncovered an intriguing piece of history—a message in a bottle that had lain hidden for over a century. The lighthouse, which has guided sailors along the treacherous coast for 132 years, was undergoing essential repairs when Ross Russell, one of the engineers on-site, made the astonishing discovery.

While inspecting a cavity in the wall of the aging structure, Russell spotted the glass bottle. Curiosity piqued, he and his colleagues successfully retrieved the bottle and invited the lighthouse keeper, Barry Miller, to join them for the momentous unveiling. The cautious extraction revealed a rolled-up note inside, sealed with a rusted wire and an old cork. Upon removal, the engineers quickly recognized the incredible age of the document, as the header bore the date September 4, 1892.

Miller, with excitement bubbling over, recalled the atmosphere during the revelation: “We were shaking, especially me. I couldn’t keep my hands still, and I read the note out to the other guys.” They all chuckled at the thought of what the note might contain—was it a romantic confession, a complaint about the weather, or perhaps a secret treasure map? Miller even jested about the need for secrecy surrounding their find. The message connects the past to the present, sparking imaginations and igniting historical curiosity, in a testament to the enduring legacy of those who once tended the lighthouse.
