Norwegian Crown Princess's Son Faces Serious Allegations of Rape and Violence
Marius Borg Høiby, 27, has been arrested in Oslo on multiple charges, including rape and violence, amidst a backdrop of controversy surrounding his royal lineage.
Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been arrested on suspicion of rape, as confirmed by Norwegian police. The 27-year-old, who does not hold a royal title or fulfill official duties, is currently in a detention center in Oslo.
On Tuesday, officials revealed that Mr. Høiby had been charged with sexual intercourse with "someone who is unconscious or for other reasons unable to resist the act." Reports suggest that he has denied the allegations, while also facing additional charges for offenses related to four other victims.
In a police statement, it was noted that the allegations concerning rape involved a sexual act without penetration, with the victim being described as incapacitated. Local sources indicate that the Norwegian palace has opted not to comment on Høiby's arrest.
Mr. Høiby was taken into custody late Monday while he was in a vehicle with a victim from an unrelated incident. Police disclosed that he faces charges stemming from a violent altercation that took place on August 4, which also includes claims of "maltreatment" in close relationships and violations of a restraining order related to the same individual. Additional citations for driving without a valid license have been issued.
Authorities have conducted searches at Mr. Høiby's residence in Skaugum, situated near the crown prince and his wife’s residence. Høiby has previously faced charges related to abusive behavior against ex-girlfriends Julianne Snekkestad and Nora Haukland, as well as threats made against another man. The ongoing legal issues serve as a significant deviation from the typical public image associated with Norway's royal family.
