Pakistan Army Rescues Over 300 Hostages from Militants in Balochistan
A daring military operation frees hostages after train hijacking by the Baloch Liberation Army.
In a commendable act of bravery, Pakistan's army announced the successful rescue of over 300 hostages from a passenger train in Balochistan province, which had been taken over by militants this week. The military spokesperson revealed that 33 militants were killed during the operation to free the captives.
Tragically, before the commence of the rescue, reports indicate that 21 civilian hostages along with four military personnel had already been killed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), the group responsible for the hijacking. The military continues to conduct operations in the area to eliminate any remaining threats posed by the militants.
The BLA has been designated a terrorist organization by both Pakistani authorities and several Western governments, including the UK and US. The group demands greater autonomy or even independence for Balochistan, alleging that Islamabad has long exploited the region's vast mineral resources while neglecting the local populace.
In a dangerous twist, reports indicate that among those on the train were at least 100 security personnel. The militants had issued threats to kill hostages if the authorities did not free Baloch political prisoners within 48 hours before the operation unfolded.
