Amid the celebration of Paris Saint-Germain’s historic Champions League victory, chaos ensues leading to tragic incidents and numerous injuries.



As the night echoed with jubilation following Paris Saint-Germain's decisive 5-0 win against Inter Milan in the Champions League final, France experienced a wave of celebrations that tragically spiraled into violence, leaving a community shaken. The victory, the first for any French club in 32 years, ignited an outpouring of elation, but festivities quickly turned into chaos as several incidents resulted in the deaths of two individuals and over 200 injuries.

On the morning following the event, the Interior Ministry confirmed that a car struck and killed a young scooter driver in Paris while a separate incident in Dax claimed the life of a 17-year-old, the relationship of which to the celebrations remains uncertain. In Grenoble, a car became a weapon of unintended consequences, racing into a throng of fans and injuring four members of a family. The driver fled but later returned to turn himself in.

Amidst the unrest, an alarming number of injuries were reported, including various injuries to 22 various law enforcement personnel and seven firefighters. The chaos also led to the arrest of 320 individuals nationwide, with the majority (254) occurring in Paris. The police documented an astonishing 692 fires across the country, including the burning of 264 vehicles.

The victory marked a historic achievement for PSG, as they showcased a thrilling brand of soccer that has garnered admiration from fans and inspired the nation, especially its youth. However, that night the joyous display of across the Champs-Élysées, where fans danced and honked in celebration, transformed as emergency services responded to incidents of violence and destruction, a somber reminder amid the celebratory spirit that marked the evening.

France, which stands at a crossroads politically and socially, had long anticipated this football breakthrough, but for many, the celebration came at a devastating cost, underscoring the fine line between exuberance and tragedy in the realm of sports fandom.
