In a significant escalation of hostilities, Russia has launched a large-scale drone and bomber assault on Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city. The attack, which occurred late Friday and continued into Saturday, resulted in the deaths of four individuals and caused injuries to approximately 60 others, according to local authorities. In southern Ukraine, two additional fatalities were reported in Kherson due to Russian bombardments, underscoring the widespread impact of the attacks.

Kharkiv's Mayor Ihor Terekhov detailed that the Russian military employed a combination of 48 drones, two missiles, and four glide bombs during the nighttime offensive. Subsequently, further strikes with glide bombs hit the city, resulting in one additional death and wounding at least 18 more people. The brutal assault led to damage to at least 18 apartment buildings and 13 private residences, with residential areas bearing the brunt of the onslaught. Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinsky claimed Ukraine had unexpectedly delayed the swap, citing unfulfilled obligations on Kyiv's part.
