US President Donald Trump has been declared to be in "excellent cognitive and physical health" by his White House physician, following a rigorous annual physical examination. This assessment took place at a hospital near Washington D.C., marking the first physical of his second presidential term. Dr. Sean Barbabella's memo highlighted not only Trump's robust health but also noted "scarring on the right ear from a gunshot wound" resulting from an assassination attempt last July.
"President Trump remains in excellent health, exhibiting robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function," said Dr. Barbabella in his memo, made public by the White House. At 78 years old, Trump is historically the oldest president upon taking office; however, his predecessor Joe Biden was 82 when he left office.
The nearly five-hour evaluation conducted at the Walter Reed hospital included blood tests, cardiac examinations, and various ultrasounds. Dr. Barbabella noted, "His active lifestyle continues to contribute significantly to his well-being." The examination included cognitive tests, and Trump scored a perfect 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a test designed to identify cognitive decline including dementia.
In addition, Dr. Barbabella reported some minor sun damage and a few benign skin lesions. Trump is on medication to manage his cholesterol, including Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe, as well as Aspirin for cardiac health and Mometasone cream for a skin condition. He weighs 224 pounds (101 kg) and measures at 6 feet 2.5 inches tall, marking a reduction from his weight of 243 pounds in February 2019. According to Body Mass Index (BMI) calculations, he is classified as overweight but not obese.
This report is the first public medical update on Trump following the assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a gunman grazed his ear. At that time, a previous report by Trump's former White House doctor, Ronny Jackson, noted that his injuries were superficial.
During his first term, a White House physician indicated Trump was in good health but suggested he lose weight and increase exercise. Notably, the president often criticized his opponent Biden regarding his cognitive and physical fitness. Following a challenging debate performance last year, Biden chose not to commit to a cognitive test, emphasizing he had not undergone one during his presidency.
