Disney Treasure Saves Lives as Catamaran Sinks Near Bermuda
The Disney Treasure comes to the rescue of four individuals stranded on a flooding catamaran over 200 miles from Bermuda.
The Disney Treasure was on its maiden voyage journey from Europe to Florida when it received a distress call about the catamaran named Serenity, which was sinking 200 miles from Bermuda. It was approximately 80 miles away when the call was made, allowing the ship to efficiently navigate to the scene.
The small catamaran, measuring a mere 15 meters in length, encountered a critical failure at its escape hatch seal, causing it to fill with water rapidly. Headquartered in the US, the Coast Guard initiated an emergency protocol, but the Disney Treasure was the closest vessel available to assist.
Captain Marco Nogara of the Disney Treasure expressed gratitude for the opportunity to assist, stating, “We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril. Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skilfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety.”
As the Disney Treasure prepares for its debut voyage in December, this incident showcases the crew's dedication to ensuring passenger safety and readiness to confront emergencies on the high seas.
