In a scenario that continues to draw significant attention, Joshua Steven Riibe, aged 22, was reported to have left the Dominican Republic and returned to the U.S. on Wednesday night alongside his father. His lawyer confirmed that despite being interviewed multiple times regarding the disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki, Riibe was never considered a suspect. Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student, vanished while on a spring break trip in Punta Cana on March 6.

Riibe, who is a senior at St. Cloud State University, was seen with Konanki late on March 6 near a beach before she was reported missing. Dominican authorities have conducted extensive searches employing drones, divers, and boats but have yet to locate her. Riibe's legal representation noted that he had initially been unable to leave the island due to a passport confiscation by local authorities, which has now been resolved following his application for a new passport at the U.S. Consulate.

While local law enforcement from Virginia expressed confidence in Riibe's cooperation during their investigation, Konanki's family has conveyed their belief that their daughter likely drowned, dismissing any notion of wrongdoing by Riibe. The Dominican authorities, upon being alerted to Konanki's disappearance, mobilized a wide array of resources for the search effort. The unfolding events highlight the complex and emotive nature of investigations into missing persons while raising questions about accountability in foreign travel scenarios.
