At the Mar‑a‑Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, on Saturday, Donald Trump told reporters that he did not intend to meet defeated Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro, but that Bolsonaro could remain in the United States for as long as he wished.

Trump said:

No plans to meet, but I think he got treated very shabbily. He can stay here as long as he wants … The election was a disgrace.

Bolsonaro, the Liberal Party candidate who lost the runoff on Oct. 25, arrived in the United States with his family on Wednesday aboard a private plane that departed from Argentina and made a stop‑over in Ecuador before landing in Florida.

In his remarks, Trump described the Brazilian election as a disgrace and criticized the way Bolsonaro was treated, calling the treatment “shabbily.” He made no mention of a future meeting or any further interactions with Bolsonaro.

The statement came from Trump’s press briefing at Mar‑a‑Lago after Bolsonaro’s arrival, and it was reported by Xinhua News Agency on Nov. 1.
