On Thursday, 29 October 2026 the Central Military Club in Sofia will host the 18th annual Pythagoras Science Contribution Awards, according to a report from BTA.
The ceremony will begin at 17:00, with the gathering organised at the club, as noted by a 14‑hour‑ago notice from Novini247 and confirmed in the BTA announcement.
Minister of Education and Science Georgi Valchev will open the event, while the ministry’s press centre has stated that Prime Minister Rumen Radev has been invited to attend.
Winners will be chosen in eight categories that span the natural and engineering sciences, life sciences and medicine, and the social sciences and humanities, with a special prize dedicated to excellence in science communication.
Held for 18 consecutive years, the awards have come to be regarded as one of Bulgaria’s most prestigious recognitions of scientific achievement, and a grand prize is traditionally awarded for overall contributions to science.
Last year’s ceremony, which was held at the National History Museum on 14 October 2025, saw 52 scientists compete for the awards and prof. Radostina Stoyanova of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry take home the grand prize.
