In brief

Recent Russian military strikes on Black Sea ports in the Odesa region have intensified, endangering Ukraine's grain exports and inflating global food prices.

In a renewed assault on Ukraine's southern coast, Russia has launched multiple attacks on the Odesa region's port infrastructure, reportedly attempting to stifle Ukraine's grain export capabilities. These strikes have led to the tragic deaths of 14 civilians and injuries to 28 others. One recent attack involved ballistic missiles, tragically hitting a residential building and killing four, including a young girl.Shipping vessels, especially those under the flags of smaller nations, have been targeted. A container ship registered with Palau and another under the Saint Kitts and Nevis flag suffered damage, signifying a broader impact on international shipping. The European Commission's spokesperson, Peter Stano, condemned these actions, accusing Russia of using food shipments as leverage by directly threatening global supply chains. He urged for an immediate cessation of these unlawful attacks.
