In brief
The arrival of longer days evokes feelings of expansion, encouraging us to embrace life with greater openness.
March 8, 2025, signals a pivotal shift as we prepare to set our clocks forward an hour for Daylight Saving Time. With the promise of longer, sunlit days ahead, this seasonal transition often sparks a collective awakening, inviting us to contemplate our own internal metamorphosis. March, characterized by its gradual elongation of light—approximately three minutes added each day—prepares the heart for spring. Although the season itself has yet to fully unfold, the anticipation of warmth ignites hopes for fresh beginnings. This time of year encapsulates my personal definition of "The Great Thaw" or "The Great Unclenching." It conjures images of shedding the claustrophobic layers imposed by winter, a season that encourages retreat and introspection. While the cozy comforts of winter—a warm mug by the hearth, joyful gatherings—are cherished, they often also prompt a contraction. The colder months sometimes maintain an unsaid pressure that necessitates a hasty passage through life. However, with the return of daylight, one can feel that familiar sense of release. “Daylight Saving Time Begins," I call this moment—a grand celebration, a signal that the days of introspection and strict schedules are behind us. We can breathe out, hesitate less, and appreciate spontaneity more. This encourages a shift away from rigid planning, allowing casual meet-ups to become delightful experiences.Everyone experiences this seasonal transition differently, yet there’s a universal allure to the idea of opening up. Like the natural world around us—where winter’s tight grasp yields to spring’s exuberance—many of us wrestle with the tension between holding back and fully engaging with life. It brings forth deeper questions: How do we embrace the lighter, more liberated phase of the year? How can we apply this external change to our internal selves?Let's take the change in our clocks as a catalyst for self-renewal. We can acknowledge this unofficial commencement of the warmer season and ask ourselves how we will adapt and grow. How will we unshackle ourselves from past restraints and embrace a life lived with greater openness as this season of abundance arrives?
