Fighters from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have executed a number of unarmed people after capturing the Sudanese city of el-Fasher, new videos analysed by BBC Verify show.

The RSF, engaged in an ongoing war with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) for over two years, took control of a critical military base in el-Fasher amid extensive violence. Various videos depict men, donned in military attire, purportedly committing acts of violence in the area.

The UN's Sudan coordinator confirmed that they had received credible reports of summary executions in the city. BBC Verify has reached out to the RSF for comments; however, an RSF adviser denied that civilians were targeted.

The conflict in Sudan, escalating since its inception in 2023, has resulted in over 150,000 fatalities and left approximately 12 million individuals displaced.

In interviews, Denise Brown - the UN's Sudan coordinator - stated that reports of executions predominantly involved unarmed males.

Despite the RSF's denial of wrongdoing, various analyses and satellite images support claims of rampant violence and executions in el-Fasher, igniting discussions around potential war crimes.

BBC Verify has confirmed several sources of video recordings depicting distressing violent acts, including one featuring armed combatants executing unarmed captives.

As the RSF attempts to solidify control, the situation continues to escalate, highlighting the dire humanitarian crisis and urgent need for intervention.
