LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A UPS plane crashed on takeoff from the airport in Louisville, Kentucky, igniting a huge fire on the ground, officials said Tuesday. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the crash occurred at approximately 5:15 PM while the plane was en route to Honolulu after departing from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. Local authorities responded quickly to the reports of the crash. Initial reports indicated multiple injuries, as per the Louisville Metro Police Department's updates on social media. Videos circulating online showcased a significant plume of black smoke spewing into the skies. In related posts, the police confirmed a fire and debris in the vicinity, advising the public to steer clear of the area. Louisville Metro Emergency Services announced a shelter-in-place order extending to all areas north of the airport along the Ohio River. Footage from local television stations depicted a dramatic scene with flames and smoke rising from a parking lot, while fire trucks worked diligently to control the blaze. The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 aircraft involved in the incident was manufactured in 1991. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear addressed the situation on social media, acknowledging the reports and expressing his concern.
