The landmark nuclear agreement announced between the US and Saudi Arabia is contingent on Riyadh joining the Abraham Accords, which means recognising Israel, according to President Donald Trump.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the "Civil Nuclear Deal"—which involves purely civilian nuclear activities—will be approved only if Saudi Arabia joins the Abraham Accords. He emphasised that there would be no enrichment of material for military use.
These remarks arrive amid criticism that the deal could pose a risk of nuclear proliferation in an already unstable region. The nuclear issue remains at the centre of the month-long US‑Israeli tensions with Iran.
In 2020, Trump brokered the Abraham Accords that normalised relations between Israel and the UAE and Bahrain. Since then, Sudan and Morocco have also established diplomatic ties with Israel.
