A suicide attack outside a court in Pakistan's capital Islamabad has killed 12 people and injured at least 27 more, the country's interior minister stated.
Mohsin Naqvi reported that the bomber intended to target the district courthouse but was unable to gain entry.
Authorities are prioritizing the identification of the bomber, ensuring that those involved will face justice.
Suicide blasts have been uncommon in Islamabad in recent years. Video footage from the scene showed the remnants of a burnt-out car and a police cordon in place.
The injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention, according to Naqvi.
The attacker detonated the bomb near a police vehicle after waiting approximately 15 minutes.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the suicide blast.
Witnesses described the moments following the explosion, with lawyer Rustam Malik recalling hearing a loud bang and the chaos that followed as lawyers and civilians fled inside the complex. He reported seeing two bodies near the gate and several cars ablaze.
