On Wednesday, two National Guard members were hospitalized in critical condition following a shooting near the White House. A suspect also sustained injuries. Various law enforcement agencies responded to the scene amidst heavy police presence, while local leaders, including Mayor Muriel Bowser, are monitoring the situation closely. WASHINGTON - A shooting incident outside the White House on Wednesday has left two National Guard members in critical condition, according to sources familiar with the matter. A suspect has been taken into custody with reported non-life-threatening injuries.

Emergency response teams swiftly transported all three individuals to a nearby hospital, according to Vito Maggiolo from Washington, D.C. Fire and Emergency Services.

The area was secured by police tape as emergency vehicles surrounded the scene and helicopters hovered overhead. Agents from the U.S. Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were on-site, as National Guard soldiers maintained a presence nearby. At least one helicopter was seen landing near the National Mall.

The Joint D.C. Task Force confirmed its response to the reported shooting. The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating but did not provide immediate details regarding the event.

Mayor Muriel Bowser's office confirmed that local leaders are closely monitoring the unfolding situation. Bowser had been participating in a Thanksgiving Day event earlier that day and had scheduled a press conference later in the morning.

President Trump, who was at his golf course in West Palm Beach during the incident, has been briefed by the White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, stating that the administration is actively monitoring this tragic situation.

This incident comes amidst heightened security in the nation’s capital, where hundreds of National Guard members have been deployed following a federal emergency order issued by President Trump earlier this year.
