Pressure Mounts for Prince Andrew to Testify in Epstein Inquiry
US lawmakers are escalating their demands for Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor to testify regarding his links to Jeffrey Epstein, following statements from both Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna and Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez. The urgency stems from growing calls for transparency and accountability from the Royal Family in light of new allegations concerning the former prince's conduct.
Congressman Khanna emphasized the necessity for Andrew to provide a clear account of his involvement, asserting that the Royal Family has 'not been transparent' and expressing that his brother, King Charles III, should instruct him to participate in the questioning. Meanwhile, the King has recently stated that the Royal Family is 'ready to support' police inquiries into the matter.
Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing, reaching an out-of-court settlement with accuser Virginia Giuffre in 2022 without admitting liability. Nonetheless, revelations from newly released Epstein files appear to implicate him further, prompting public discourse on whether the Royal Family should also compensate victims of abuse.
Adding pressure, UK and US authorities have been engaged in discussions regarding allegations that Andrew may have shared confidential information with Epstein during his tenure as a trade envoy.
Khanna's comments reflect the escalating scrutiny on both Andrew and the Royal Family with calls for an investigation into their prior knowledge and actions related to Epstein's criminal activities.
As the scandal unfolds, Andrew has temporarily relocated from his Windsor residence to Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate. The optics of Andrew’s past associations with Epstein are under the spotlight, as numerous claims raise questions about his decisions and conduct over the years.
Lawmakers across the board are united in their belief that the former prince must be held to account, urging for clarifications regarding his role and the actions of the Royal Family in this high-profile case.
