HAMMONTON, N.J. (AP) — A tragic midair collision between two helicopters in Hammonton, New Jersey claimed one life and left another pilot critically injured. Responding to an emergency call at approximately 11:25 a.m. on Sunday, Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel confirmed that fire crews extinguished the flames engulfing one of the helicopters following the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has reported that the accident involved an Enstrom F-28A engulfed in flames and an Enstrom 280C helicopter, both of which were occupied solely by the pilots at the time of the incident. Eyewitness video captured a helicopter spiraling down rapidly, underscoring the severity of the situation.
Hammonton, a town of around 15,000 residents and known for its agricultural heritage, lies approximately 35 miles southeast of Philadelphia. The FAA along with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified and are expected to conduct thorough investigations into this heartbreaking incident.
