Eleven days after the mother of 'Today' show host Savannah Guthrie vanished from her home in Tucson, Arizona, investigators still have yet to identify a suspect or even a person of interest.

This comes after a potential lead fizzled out when police detained a man for questioning only to release him hours later. The situation escalated further on Tuesday when authorities released troubling surveillance footage showing a masked figure wearing a backpack and what appeared to be a handgun at Nancy Guthrie's doorstep the night she disappeared.

As public pressure mounts, investigators remain committed to the case, even though they have not held a news conference in several days. Mary Ellen O’Toole, a former FBI profiler, emphasizes that various cases have appeared dormant at the start yet have been solved later through dedicated work.

The Masked Figure and Public Insights

The release of the surveillance footage is a strategic move to garner public assistance. O'Toole noted the importance of community tips, referencing the case of Ted Kaczynski, the 'Unabomber,' who was captured after a family member recognized his writing style in a published manifesto.

O'Toole believes someone in the community might have witnessed suspicious behavior from the masked individual, and their insights could play a crucial role in the investigation. The FBI has also stressed that even minor details can make a big difference.

DNA Evidence in Ongoing Cases

Investigators have found DNA evidence on Nancy's porch, matching her blood, and are conducting further analysis to uncover any additional traces that might lead them to the suspect. Similar methods were pivotal in solving the University of Idaho murders when trace DNA was recovered at the crime scene.

Community Involvement as a Potential Solution

Local agencies have received nearly 18,000 calls since Nancy Guthrie was reported missing. Connor Hagan, a spokesperson for the FBI, highlighted the need for one piece of significant information that could turn the tide in the investigation.

Amidst rising concern and calls for justice, the FBI has offered a reward of $50,000 for relevant information that could bring Nancy home.
