The Pima County sheriff’s department has been inundated with over 18,000 calls and tips following the release of surveillance footage showing a masked man on the porch of Nancy Guthrie’s home shortly before her disappearance. The sheriff and the FBI are urging the public to provide any information that may assist in locating the 84-year-old mother of NBC co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.
Authorities have so far collected a staggering number of tips, with the FBI alone registering over 13,000 since the start of the investigation on February 1, emphasizing the importance of public participation in such cases.
Roberto Villaseñor, a former Tucson police chief, noted that while many tips might not be useful, it is crucial to evaluate all of them as they can contain vital clues that help move the investigation forward. Tips have been instrumental in solving complex criminal cases across the U.S., even leading to breakthroughs in cases that appeared unsolvable.
Law enforcement is currently sifting through the mass of information received, which spans a wide range from credible leads to bizarre theories. As of now, the investigation continues, and law enforcement remains hopeful that a breakthrough can be achieved with the help of the public.
