U.S. and Russia Engage in Crucial Talks in Saudi Arabia

Senior officials from the United States and Russia are set to embark on significant diplomatic talks in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking the most comprehensive discussions between the two countries in at least three years. Amid pushes from the Trump administration to conclude the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the Kremlin is keen on establishing closer relationships with Washington. Russian representatives arriving in Riyadh expressed their intent to initiate “normalization” with the U.S., hinting at the potential return of major American oil companies to Russian soil. The backdrop of these discussions is underlined by mounting concerns in Ukraine and Europe, who are wary of a peace agreement possibly skewed in Russia's favor.The pivotal meeting occurs shortly after President Trump’s detailed phone discussion with Russian President Vladimir V. Putin, during which both leaders acknowledged the long-term benefits of collaboration between America and Russia, concluding with an understanding to begin negotiations promptly to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. Leading the U.S. delegation is Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accompanied by National Security Adviser Michael Waltz and Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff.
