Germany Blames Russia for Drone Attack at Leipzig Airport


Germany announced on Thursday that a drone carrying an explosive device was found near Ukrainian cargo planes at Leipzig/Halle Airport on 4 August. The Malaysian‑made aircraft failed to detonate because the detonator was apparently faulty, but investigators suspect a second drone crashed onto a cargo aircraft nearby.


Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the raid reflected the “well‑established pattern of Russian hybrid operations in Europe” and warned that Germany could again be targeted. Russia has so far denied any role in the incident.
