ATLANTA — In early 2024, Luther Davis, a former defensive tackle for the University of Alabama, orchestrated a complex scheme by impersonating NFL players to secure $4 million in loans. Davis used the ruse of wearing makeup and wigs during video calls, convincing investors that the funds were needed for an athlete.
These allegations have now led to a criminal complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Atlanta, showcasing a detailed account of how Davis employed disguises multiple times throughout 2024 to impersonate various NFL players, securing a total of nearly $20 million from fraudulent loans.
The complaint details that Davis and his accomplice, CJ Evins, participated in a conspiracy to commit wire fraud, resulting in immense financial gain from real estate, jewelry, and luxury purchases.
Despite pleading not guilty in March, both men are expected to return to court to enter a guilty plea. Federal prosecutors emphasized that none of the involved NFL players had given any authorization for these loans, further indicating the elaborate nature of the deception.
