Emotional Testimony in Trial of Crown Princess Mette-Marit's Son
Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, broke down in tears while giving evidence at his rape trial in Oslo. The 29-year-old, overwhelmed by the occasion, described his life characterized by partying and a desperate need for validation, as well as his struggles with constant media scrutiny from a young age.
During his testimony, Høiby, visibly shaken and at times quaking, revealed his fear of the media's relentless attention. He faces four rape allegations related to incidents that occurred between 2018 and 2024, which he vehemently denies. He expressed it was challenging to recount his experiences, revealing how he's been followed by the press since the age of three.
Høiby described his past life filled with alcohol, drugs, and parties, sharing that he often feels defined solely as “Mamma’s son.” Citing the psychological toll, he remarked, Few can relate to the life I have led. A lot of parties, alcohol, some drugs. His trial coincides with difficult times for his mother, following revelations of her correspondence with the late Jeffrey Epstein, placing additional pressure on the royal family.
The court heard accusations from a woman asserting that she believed she was drugged during a 2018 encounter with Høiby, which he contends was consensual. As he continues his testimony, Høiby maintains his innocence and has called out media distortions regarding his story.
With significant emotional weight hanging over the proceedings, Marius Borg Høiby will continue to share his side of the narrative as the trial unfolds.
