A Ukrainian drone crashed onto a busy beach on the Black Sea, killing seven people – including three children – and leaving 40 injured, local authorities said.

In social‑media footage verified by the BBC, the drone was seen hurtling towards a cliffside before colliding with a fireball on the beach while tourists and swimmers looked on from shore.

The governor of the Krasnodar region, Veniamin Kondratyev, said 17 people were hospitalised and accused Ukraine of “a deliberate strike on civilians”. Ukraine has not commented; both sides deny targeted attacks on civilian areas.

Eyewitnesses reported gunfire and an explosion, suggesting Russian air defences may have intercepted the drone. Some Ukrainian Telegram channels claimed the aircraft crashed due to electronic warfare jamming its signal.

The crash occurred near the village of Arkhipo‑Osipovka, a popular holiday spot with long beaches and developed tourist infrastructure, especially after international travel has been curtailed by sanctions.

Tourists and residents said the attack came without any sirens; “We covered ourselves with sun‑loungers, and didn’t see where it exploded,” one holidaymaker said. Another heard “gunfire, like a machine gun” followed by an explosion. A third lamented that the event happened “in front of my children” and that their child is experiencing a nervous breakdown.
