A Cessna Caravan crashed over Peru’s UNESCO Nazca Lines, killing all 13 aboard – seven Italians, two Germans, two Spaniards and both pilots.

A small Cessna Caravan carrying 13 travellers crashed in Peru's Nazca region, killing everyone aboard. The aircraft was flying over the famed Nazca Lines when it went down Saturday. Victims were largely European tourists, and the crash is under investigation. Peruvian officials said the plane was operated by Aerodiana and will revise its schedules following orders from authorities. This marks the third such tragedy over the geoglyph site in recent years.

The aircraft, a Cessna Caravan C-208, was over the Nazca Lines archaeological site when it went down Saturday. Eleven passengers and two pilots were on board.

Passengers were two German, two Spanish and seven Italian tourists. The cause remains unclear.

The Nazca Lines are a popular tourist attraction and UNESCO World Heritage site featuring ancient sand drawings of animals. Tourists often fly in small planes to view the geoglyphs.

Police Major Jorge Andrade said: \'Given the severity of the accident, there are no survivors. We have recovered four bodies so far.\'

The crash happened around 13:00 local time (19:00 BST) in the Pueblo Viejo region after the plane departed from an airport in Pisco.

Video footage shows firefighters spraying water at the wreckage as smoke rises.

Local officials expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to families. The plane belonged to Aerodiana, a local airline that said it would assess its schedule following authorities’ directives.

This is the third such incident over the site in recent decades. In 2022 another tourist plane crashed killing seven. In 2010 a plane crashed killing six.
