Russian Air Strikes Devastate Kyiv: Six Dead and Over 50 Injured
A brutal night of drone and missile strikes leaves a tragic mark on Ukraine’s capital.
At least six individuals, including a six-year-old boy, were killed and more than 50 others wounded following a series of aerial assaults on Kyiv, as reported by Ukrainian officials. The attacks, which involved Russian drones and missiles, targeted various locations across the city, leading to considerable damage, especially in residential areas.
Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv's military administration, indicated that the death toll may rise because of the extensive destruction, including a collapsed apartment block. The Ukrainian interior minister, Igor Klymenko, revealed that one of the strikes caused an entire entrance of a high-rise building to shatter, while rescuers worked tirelessly to clear the debris.
The hardest-hit districts included Sviatoshynsky and Solomyansky, with more than 20 people injured in one area alone. Mayor Vitali Klitschko shared on Telegram that a child care ward's windows in a local hospital were shattered as a result of the shockwave from the blasts. Educational institutions, including a school and a kindergarten, also sustained damage during the onslaught.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed deep sorrow for the situation, referring to the morning as "horrible" and confirmed that there are still individuals trapped under the rubble. He called for increased pressure on Russia through sanctions, critiquing US President Donald Trump’s prior leniency towards Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding a ceasefire.
Earlier in July, Trump had issued a 50-day ultimatum for a ceasefire but later suggested a shorter timeframe, expressing frustration with the ongoing violence more than three years after Russia initiated its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Despite the promises of peace, the relentless bombardment continues, illustrating the urgency of international intervention in the conflict.
