As the sun set on the first night of the iconic Houston Rodeo, about a dozen spirited young Republicans filled the backroom of an Irish pub, deferring the festivities outside in favor of watching President Donald Trump’s prime-time address to Congress. The atmosphere was electric, decorated by red, white, and blue attire, along with patriotic accessories that showcased their enthusiasm.

Evan Howard, a 26-year-old supporter donning a Trump-Vance cap, raised his glass affirmatively with each proposal he agreed with, particularly appreciating Trump's stance on crime, indicating he believes the President will effectively crack down on criminal activity and cartels. "He's already surpassed all expectations," Howard declared, giving Trump a performance grade of “A+” for his first 44 days in office.

Despite this optimism, Howard was candid about not yet experiencing tangible benefits from Trump's policies but expressed patience, trusting in the long-term effects of the changes being enacted. Fellow attendee Brittany, a 31-year-old newcomer to the Republican Party, echoed her agreement with Trump’s unifying message, criticizing Democrats for their focus on issues she feels sidestep more pressing concerns affecting Americans, such as crime and homelessness.

As the room filled with cheers whenever Trump mentioned hot-topic issues, laughter followed moments of levity, though the crowd voiced frustration with Democrats, booing at visual cuts to figures like Nancy Pelosi. The only critique of the evening was a suggestion for Trump to mention Joe Biden less frequently, though the overall sentiment remained clear: this group embraced Trump's message of “promises made and promises kept.”
