Visa Revocation Surge Under Rubio's Administration
Secretary of State Marco Rubio reveals a significant increase in visa revocations linked to foreign policy stances and criminal activity.
In a recent briefing aboard his plane while returning from a Caribbean tour, Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed that his administration has revoked more than 300 visas for students, visitors, and others due to conflicting foreign policy views or involvement in criminal activities. Since taking office in January, Rubio has consistently signed letters aimed at expelling these individuals from the United States.
Rubio detailed that the visa revocations are not limited to students but further encompass a range of visa types linked to visitors. He emphasized that if any individual engages in actions contradicting U.S. national interests or foreign policy, their visa will be at risk.
During his comments, Rubio stated that he examines each case personally before endorsing action from immigration agents. He asserted that anyone facing criminal charges should lose their visa automatically, and in cases involving permanent residents, actions can be taken to terminate their green cards.
“What I ask myself is whether we would have issued this visa based on known information at the time of application,” he explained. “If the answer is no, we proceed with revocation.”
When pressed about how cases were selected for review, Rubio opted to withhold specific details, stating the administration is actively searching for additional individuals to include in the program. The significant actions undertaken by his office continue to draw attention amid ongoing discussions about immigration policy and national security.
