China Enhances Visa-Free Transit Policy to Attract Tourists
In a proactive bid to welcome back tourists, China increases visa-free stays for transit visitors to 10 days.
In an effort to rejuvenate its tourism sector and attract international travelers, the Chinese government announced the extension of visa-free transit stays from a maximum of six days to an impressive ten-day allowance. This policy shift aims to bring visitors to explore the diverse beauty of China, particularly after prolonged pandemic regulations and ongoing geopolitical challenges that severely impacted global travel.
Since reopening its borders in 2023, China has been actively implementing changes to facilitate easier access for tourists. Previously, travelers from 54 nations, including the United States, could enter China without a visa if transiting to another country, but their stay was limited to three to six days, depending on the port of entry. The new policy now allows up to 240 hours, or ten days, for travelers arriving at designated airports under the visa-free transit category.
Moreover, China has expanded the list of approved entry and exit points by adding 21 airports to the existing 39, allowing wider access for travelers. In addition to relaxed stay durations, the updated regulations now permit international visitors to freely travel across 24 provinces, promoting broader exploration beyond the initial entry point. This modernized approach represents China's commitment to fostering tourism and cultural exchange in a post-pandemic world.
