Zulu King’s Third Marriage Faces Legal Trouble Amidst Controversy

The first wife of Zulu King Misuzulu, Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela, failed in her legal bid to prevent her husband from marrying a third wife, Nomzamo Myeni. Despite a court ruling against her, conflicting information regarding the wedding's status remains, reflecting ongoing challenges in the royal household.

The Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini's plans for a third marriage have encountered a significant hurdle, as his first wife, Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela, could not legally obstruct the ceremony. Just days before an expected wedding, Queen Ntokozo took her case to court, asserting that their civil marriage remains valid, thus preventing any additional unions.

In a court session held earlier this week, Judge Bongani Mngadi dismissed her application, ruling that since the queen had previously acknowledged the possibility of her husband marrying other women, she could not legally stop the upcoming wedding. Complicating matters further, last Saturday, South African media reported that a letter from the king claimed the ceremony was canceled due to "reasons beyond the control of the royal house."

Despite this, uncertainty remains regarding the actual status of the wedding. A report from South African news outlet TimesLIVE revealed that the bride-to-be, Myeni, was unaware of the letter and believed the wedding would occur as originally planned. In contrast, according to IOL, the king expressed strong affection for Myeni, insisting he would "marry her by force" if necessary.

Since ascending to the throne after his father's death in March 2021, King Misuzulu has faced multiple controversies. His recent actions include the unlawful suspension of the Ingonyama Trust board, which manages substantial communal land aimed at supporting KwaZulu-Natal communities. This decision has led to speculation regarding his authority and the legality of his reign, as some are challenging his recognition as monarch in court.

Adding to the drama, the king's sudden dismissal of two key aides, including his traditional prime minister, has further stirred dissatisfaction among royal observers.
