Trump Hints at Third Term Ambitions Despite Constitutional Barriers
Former President suggests methods to bypass term limits in a recent NBC interview.
Former President Donald Trump has stirred controversy by hinting at the possibility of pursuing a third presidential term during his appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press." Speaking to host Kristen Welker, he indicated that he was "not joking" about the idea and mentioned that "a lot of people" support him in this ambition. Trump did not shy away from controversial topics, expressing his anger towards President Vladimir V. Putin and announcing intentions to impose tariffs on international competitors.
"A lot of people want me to do it," Trump stated, while also highlighting his current focus. Despite this, such aspirations would run into the limitations set by the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution, which prohibits any individual from being elected president more than twice.
In response to Trump's remarks, the current White House reiterated his commitment to his current term, emphasizing that now is not the time to speculate about a third term. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung commented on Trump’s popularity, stating many Americans support his "America First" initiatives and that he is dedicated to reversing the impact of the Biden administration's policies.
