Pope Francis Hospitalized for Bronchitis Treatment
Pope Francis to receive medical care for ongoing bronchitis symptoms.
Pope Francis will be admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome for treatment and diagnostic tests related to bronchitis, as confirmed by the Vatican in a recent statement. The pontiff, who is 88 years old, is set to check in following his morning audiences on Friday, given he has been experiencing bronchitis symptoms for the past several days. Due to his condition, he has relied on official representatives to deliver his prepared speeches during recent engagements.
The Vatican's statement emphasized the Pope's need for "necessary diagnostic tests and hospital treatment" as he grapples with ongoing health challenges. Just earlier this week, during a public appearance, the Pope was compelled to ask a priest to read a segment of his speech on his behalf, acknowledging, "I cannot yet, with my bronchitis. I hope that next time I can."
The Pope has shown resilience despite his illness, attempting to continue his duties, including recent meetings at the Vatican aimed at rest and recovery. However, this isn't the first time the Pope has faced health difficulties; he received treatment for bronchitis at the same hospital back in March 2023, where he remained for three nights. Moreover, he also had to cancel his visit to the United Arab Emirates due to similar health concerns late last year.
Despite his health battles, Pope Francis has been a dedicated leader of the Roman Catholic Church for nearly 12 years and has a history of health challenges, including having a lung partially removed at the age of 21. The Vatican community watches closely as the Pope prepares for his hospital admission, hoping for a smooth recovery.
