Hollywood's Eva Longoria expresses her family's departure from the United States, highlighting a new lifestyle in Mexico and Spain.
In a candid conversation with Marie Claire for its November cover, Eva Longoria, the star of "Desperate Housewives," opened up about her family's decision to leave the United States and split their time between Mexico and Spain. Longoria mentioned that the shifting socio-political climate, including the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, rising homelessness, and heavy taxation in California, contributed to her family's relocation. The actress, who is well-known for her Democratic political involvement, expressed her feelings of privilege regarding the move, stating: “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country.”
Longoria has long been recognized as a significant voice within the Democratic Party, particularly for women and Latino communities. She remains actively engaged in political discourse, drawing attention to immigration reform issues and supporting candidates at various levels, including a passionate plea for Kamala Harris during the recent campaign season with the catchphrase "She se puede," echoing Barack Obama's powerful "Yes, we can."
Reflecting on the outcome of the latest elections, Longoria confided that Donald Trump's success over Harris left her feeling disillusioned about the political landscape. “If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place,” she warned. The actress lamented that Trump's 2016 victory shattered her belief in the electoral process, where she once held hope that "the best person wins."
Though Longoria has deep roots in the US, being a ninth-generation Texan, she felt it was time to turn the page on her life in Los Angeles. She is well-known for her role as Gabrielle Solis, which gained her a Golden Globe nomination in 2006. Additionally, her recent projects include hosting CNN’s "Searching for Mexico" and "Searching for Spain."
Eva Longoria is married to José "Pepe" Bastón, the president of Televisa, with whom she shares a six-year-old son, Santiago. Bastón also has three older children from a previous marriage. The couple's life now spans across borders as they find new opportunities outside the United States.
