Airbnb Expands Offerings with Personal Chefs and Spa Services on Revamped App
Airbnb's redesigned app now features luxury services, elevating user experiences beyond just accommodation.
Airbnb has announced a significant upgrade to its app, which will now allow users to book a range of luxury services including personal trainers, massages, and chefs. The move is aimed at diversifying Airbnb's offerings as it seeks to compete more directly with hotels, providing what CEO Brian Chesky describes as "the best of both worlds." This announcement comes amid concerns over potential slowdowns in bookings in the U.S., partly due to the impact of President Trump's trade policies on consumer sentiment.
Having welcomed over two billion guests since it started in 2008, Airbnb has also been navigating challenges with cities imposing restrictions on short-term rentals. Initially, the newly launched services will be available in 260 cities, with prices starting at under $50 (£37.57). Importantly, these luxury services can be accessed by anyone, not just Airbnb guests.
The revamped app also enhances the "Experiences" feature, first introduced in 2016, which enables users to book customized tours and activities easily. Gary Bowerman, director at Check-in Asia, notes that modern travelers prioritize personalization and unique experiences over mere logistics and why they travel.
Further enriching the platform's offerings is the new "Originals" tab, which presents exclusive experiences like playing beach volleyball with Olympian Carol Solberg or joining NFL star Patrick Mahomes for a Sunday outing. Luxury travel consultant Anastasia Oriordan emphasizes that today's tourists are increasingly seeking off-the-beaten-path experiences, highlighting a shift in expectations as people pursue life’s unique adventures.
