Tragic Plane Crash Claims Lives of Six Thai Police Officers
Six police officers tragically lose their lives in a plane crash during parachute training in Thailand.
Six police officers were killed in Thailand following a plane crash during a parachute training exercise. The incident occurred at approximately 08:00 local time (01:00 GMT) on Friday in the Cha-am district, located around 130 kilometers (80 miles) southwest of Bangkok. According to a statement from the Royal Thai Police, five officers were pronounced dead immediately at the scene, while a sixth officer succumbed to injuries later in the hospital.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash by analyzing the aircraft's black box data recorder. Reports suggest the plane struck the water about 100 meters from the shore, with witnesses sharing footage of individuals wading into the sea to reach the wreckage.
The deceased included three pilots, an engineer, and two mechanics, as confirmed by police. The Royal Thai Police expressed their heartfelt condolences to the families and colleagues of the courageous officers. Police chief Kitrat Phanphet, who visited the crash site with other officials, indicated preliminary investigations disclosed the aircraft was headed towards residential areas but was skillfully maneuvered by the pilots into the sea, thereby preventing further casualties.
Photographs taken later revealed the wreckage of the aircraft partially submerged in shallow waters, illustrating the seriousness of the tragedy that unfolded on what was meant to be a standard training exercise.
