Halle Bailey Secures Restraining Order Against Alleged Abusive Ex-Boyfriend
Actress and singer Halle Bailey takes legal action against rapper DDG, citing abuse and fear for her child's safety.
In a significant legal development, actress and musician Halle Bailey has been awarded a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, rapper DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. The decision follows Bailey's disturbing claims of repeated violence and emotional abuse that left her fearing for her safety and that of their one-year-old son, Halo.
On Tuesday, a judge in Los Angeles ordered Granberry to maintain distance from both Bailey and their child until a court hearing set for June 6. Bailey, 25, asserts there were "multiple acts of physical violence" since their breakup in October, prompting her request for legal protection.
In her official documents, reported by the Associated Press, Bailey detailed the nature of the alleged abuse, saying, "Throughout our relationship, Darryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me. I am seeking orders to protect myself and our son Halo from his ongoing abuse."
The dispute has reportedly escalated into violence, with one incident capturing headlines where Granberry allegedly pulled Bailey's hair, slammed her face against a steering wheel, and caused a chipped tooth during a heated argument. She provided photographs as evidence of the injuries sustained in these confrontations.
Bailey's requests extended beyond physical safety; she sought an order preventing Granberry from using his large social media presence to defame her. She explained that his online statements lead to public backlash, receiving threats from followers who believed his claims.
The former couple, who dated from 2022 until their split, have had a tumultuous relationship, it seems, with allegations surfacing regarding Granberry entering her home unlawfully and sending her unsettling messages.
As part of the restraining order, the judge has also prohibited Granberry from possessing any weapons and has the authority to extend the order for up to five years pending the upcoming hearing.
Not only is Bailey an accomplished artist—having gained fame as part of the musical duo Chloe x Halle and earning five Grammy nominations—but she has also made a remarkable transition to acting, prominently featured in Disney's recent live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. Conversely, DDG, 27, made his name on YouTube before succeeding in the music industry with multiple album releases.
As the story unfolds, the legal battle reflects the complexities surrounding personal relationships in the public eye, especially when intertwined with issues of safety and domestic abuse.
