Grenoble Bar Attack Leaves 12 Injured Amid Violent Scenery

Twelve individuals sustain injuries from a grenade attack in a popular Grenoble bar, prompting an investigation into possible drug-related motives.

 

In a shocking incident that unfolded on Wednesday evening in Grenoble, France, a grenade was hurled into the bustling Aksehir bar, injuring twelve patrons, with two individuals reported to be in critical condition. The attack took place shortly after 20:00 local time, as witnesses described a chaotic scene filled with confusion and panic.

Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the attack; however, investigators are exploring links to a potential “settling of scores.” Prosecutor Francois Touret-de-Courcey noted that while no tangible evidence connects the incident to terrorism, it constitutes an “act of extreme violence.” Eyewitness testimonies suggest that the unidentified assailant may have also been armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle.

The bar is located in the lively Olympic Village neighborhood, a hotspot for locals and visitors, especially during football matches. In response to the alarming situation, officials mobilized around 80 firefighters and police officers, securing the area until Thursday morning.

Deputy Mayor Chloe Pantel described the venue as a beloved gathering place, echoing the sentiments of the community. Local authorities have promised an increased police presence in the region to ensure safety and maintain order. Mayor Eric Piolle condemned the violence, labeling it as a “criminal act of extraordinary violence,” and expressed gratitude towards the rescue teams for their swift response.
