Gaza Aid Group Blames Hamas for Attack on Humanitarian Workers
At least five Palestinians killed in assault as tensions escalate in Gaza.
An aid group operating in Gaza, supported by both Israel and the United States, reported a devastating incident on Wednesday night when a bus carrying its Palestinian workers was ambushed by Hamas militants. The group, known as the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, stated that at least five of its workers were killed and several others were wounded during the attack while en route to an aid distribution point in southern Gaza.
The organization expressed deep outrage at the incident, referring to the victims as “dedicated workers who risked their lives to help others.” They mentioned that some of the workers might have been abducted during the assault and indicated that they were in the process of gathering further details.
"We condemn this heinous and deliberate attack in the strongest possible terms," declared the foundation, which is overseen by American contractors. "These were humanitarians – fathers, brothers, sons, and friends." Despite the severity of the situation, information from reliable sources on the attack remains unverified, and Hamas has yet to respond to the allegations.
The Israeli military also did not provide immediate commentary on the matter. In response to the violence, the foundation held Hamas accountable for the deaths, urging the global community to take a stronger stance against the militant group. "Tonight, the world must see this for what it is: an attack on humanity," they asserted.
Previously, the aid organization has been openly critical of Hamas, stating that the group had threatened workers and civilians in the area. Just days prior to the attack, the foundation reported that its ability to distribute aid was jeopardized due to intimidation tactics employed by Hamas, further illustrating the mounting tensions and dangers facing humanitarian efforts in the region.
