Canadians Head to the Polls: Election Day Updates
Millions prepare to vote, with early participation hitting 7.2 million as the nation engages in a crucial democratic process.
On Monday, millions of Canadians will exercise their right to vote, marking an essential moment for the nation's democracy. More than 7.2 million Canadians have already made their voices heard during the early voting phase, according to Elections Canada.
If you're planning to head to the polls, it's important to know where to vote. You can easily find your designated polling station based on your address by visiting Canada’s election website or by calling 1-800-463-6868.
Polling hours are set at 12-hour intervals across the country, adjusted according to local time zones. For those in the Pacific time zone, voting is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., while polling stations in the Mountain time zone open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. In the Atlantic, Central, and Newfoundland time zones, polls are available from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., while the Eastern time zone allows voting from 9:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.
A key reminder for voters: if you find yourself in line when polls close, stay put—everyone already in line will be allowed to cast their vote.
Before heading to the polling places, don’t forget to bring your voting card received in the mail and a form of ID with your name. Acceptable forms of government-issued identification can be found online.
If you haven’t registered to vote yet, there's still an opportunity! You can register at your polling station today, as long as you bring an ID showing your current address. If you’ve recently changed your address, be prepared to provide several documents that confirm your new residence.
As Canadians take part in this pivotal moment, the nation's commitment to democracy remains strong.
