Crown Princess' Son Faces Serious Allegations as Authorities Arrest Him
Marius Borg Hoiby, stepson of Norway’s Crown Prince, is taken into custody on suspicion of rape, with his lawyer denying the charges.
Marius Borg Hoiby, the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, was arrested on Monday evening by Oslo authorities on suspicion of rape. According to a police statement, he is alleged to have violated a section of Norway’s penal code that concerns “sexual intercourse with someone who is unconscious or for other reasons unable to resist the act.”
His lawyer, Oyvind Bratlien, vehemently denied the accusations, stating that Hoiby is currently cooperating with the investigation. Mr. Bratlien did not provide additional comments following the arrest.
At 27 years old, Mr. Borg Hoiby holds no formal titles or responsibilities within Norway’s royal family. He was just four years old when his mother married Crown Prince Haakon in 2001. Over recent years, however, he has found himself at the center of controversy, facing scrutiny over his behavior towards women, including multiple allegations of abuse against former partners.
Earlier this year in August, he was arrested on separate charges of bodily harm and property damage involving a different woman. Following that incident, he publicly apologized and acknowledged his wrongdoing, attributing his actions to substance abuse. He stated his intention to seek help for alcohol and cocaine abuse.
This series of events raises serious questions not only about Mr. Borg Hoiby’s personal conduct but also about the implications for Norway's royal family, which has been dealing with the aftermath of these allegations and public scrutiny.
