Dame Joan Plowright, one of Britain's most revered actresses, has died at the age of 95, as announced by her family. The beloved star, who earned an Oscar nomination for her impactful role in the 1991 film "Enchanted April," passed away on January 16, 2025, with her loved ones by her side at Denville Hall.

Born in Scunthorpe, Plowright made her mark in London's West End during the 1950s, first appearing alongside Sir Laurence Olivier in "The Entertainer" at the Royal Court in 1957. This collaboration blossomed into marriage in 1961, solidifying her place in the theatrical world. Plowright was an integral member of the National Theatre, which Olivier founded.

Her distinguished career spanned over six decades, highlighted by a Tony Award win for her performance in "A Taste of Honey" in Broadway in 1960 and a BAFTA nomination for her role in "Equus" with Richard Burton in 1978. Despite her retirement from the stage in 2014 due to blindness, she remained a cherished figure admired for her immense talent and contributions to the arts.
