The woman, 42, was taken into custody at the international airport after customs officials grew suspicious of her behavior. Bali police's narcotics unit director, who goes by the name Radiant, disclosed the details during a press briefing. According to Radiant, law enforcement discovered 1.4 kilograms (3.1 pounds) of cocaine and 43 ecstasy pills packaged in black duct tape within a green bra and also hidden inside black underwear. Furthermore, they reported that a drug-laden sex toy was inserted into her body.

In April, N.S. reportedly made a connection on the dark web that led to her being offered $19,000 to transport the illicit substances. She had flown from Barcelona, Spain, with a stop in Doha, arriving in Bali on the 12th of August.

Once at the airport, customs officials quickly alerted police, leading to her arrest. Indonesian authorities enforce strict drug policies and have a history of severe penalties for trafficking offenses, including the death penalty—though since 2017, an unofficial moratorium on executions has been in place. Just last month, three British nationals were able to escape a death sentence after being found guilty of similar charges, showing the high stakes involved in drug smuggling in the region.
