Two Dead in Devastating Small Plane Crash in San Diego Neighborhood

A small plane crash in a San Diego residential area has resulted in two fatalities and numerous injuries, prompting widespread evacuations.

At least two individuals perished Thursday morning when a small Cessna 550 aircraft crashed into the bustling Murphy Canyon neighborhood in San Diego. The incident left one house completely destroyed and damaged ten others, while cars on the street caught fire, according to local authorities. Eight residents sustained minor injuries, with one requiring hospitalization, while others received on-site medical treatment. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the Cessna can typically accommodate eight to ten people, including the pilot; however, the identities of the deceased and the passengers have not yet been disclosed.

Assistant Fire Department Chief Dan Eddy described the chaotic aftermath, stating, "There's plane everywhere," emphasizing the chaos caused by the force and speed of the crash. Fortunately, none of the residents in the damaged homes were reported to have sustained serious injuries, and about 100 individuals were evacuated to ensure their safety.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing experience. Local resident Christopher Moore shared his terrifying wake-up call, describing a loud explosion followed by smoke. He and his wife managed to grab their two young children and escape outside, where they witnessed a car completely engulfed in flames. Marine resident reports detailed hearing an unusual noise before the impactful boom resonated throughout the area.

Authorities believe the aircraft was en route to Montgomery Field, an airport situated approximately six miles north of downtown San Diego. As investigations continue, the community grapples with the tragic loss and the aftermath of this shocking aviation incident.
