Police in New York are ramping up efforts to apprehend the assailant responsible for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was fatally shot outside a Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning shortly before Thompson was due to speak at an investors' conference. The shooter, who remains at large, was seen just moments before the attack on surveillance footage taken from a nearby Starbucks.

The NYPD is utilizing advanced facial recognition technology, examining the images from Starbucks where the suspect was photographed, albeit masked. Despite his disguise, sources suggest that part of the suspect's face is visible, providing a potential lead for investigators. Thompson was shot multiple times in what police are describing as a pre-meditated attack targeting him specifically, as none of his belongings were taken.

Reports indicate that the shooting transpired at approximately 6:45 a.m. EST. Witnesses described the gunman waiting outside of the Hilton hotel, dressed in a mask and a light brown jacket. After shooting Thompson, who was walking toward the hotel, the suspect fled the scene on foot while appearing to utilize a silencer on his firearm, as captured by nearby CCTV.

Although the NYPD initially believed the suspect used a Citi Bike to escape, the ride-sharing company later clarified that its vehicle had not been involved. Investigators are now also analyzing three bullet casings and several live rounds located at the crime scene for DNA evidence.
